I'd still like to see data on mines and wells though.

I'm sorry you didn't feel it. The car is just hopeless. There's just no chance. I bet even if it was parked you couldn't make a cup of water jiggle with an earthquake. Jurassic Park did not convince me.

I saw USGS tweet something today about fault maps of the East coast but I didn't have a chance to read the link. The headline made it look like a dead-end teaser, like "it's not that easy.'Beachtonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13792937145012547220noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9111303718232102418.post-86677739099990752542011-08-24T22:45:26.123-04:002011-08-24T22:45:26.123-04:00Good find with the geologic map! As soon as I got home on the day of the quake, I was diving into my Goode's World Atlas and my compendium of Geology resources (which are in great need of being updated, since most date from my college years). I'm going to go with the source of the quake being completely unadulterated by human activity, simply because it is the most likely. Not that hydro-fracking or other scenarios aren't possible, but I'd venture a SWAG that they are extremely unlikely here.

I was about 150 miles northeast of the epicenter at the time of the quake, and, if my subsequent figuring is correct, I had just passed over a bridge in my car approximately one to five minutes before it began. In fact, there was construction on the bridge, with a couple of crews actually in buckets on long arms under the bridge at the time, so I'm sure those folks got quite a shock!

I however, felt not one freaking thing! My wife was driving the car, and I never felt anything other than the normal road feelings. She noticed nothing either. I felt ripped off!

People were calling and sending me text messages, asking if I was ok, and what did I think of the quake. People as far away as northern NJ! And they felt it! Bastards! Luckily for me, I had my handy dandy Earthquake App on the iPhone, which linked me right to the USGS, so I had up to the minute data (and knew how to read it).

I should have thought to Tweet it or to Tweet directly to you about it. I know nobody else who could have conversed with me about it, other than something on the order of, "Wow. Big fucking quake, huh!"The Defiant Marshmallowhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17679459676978114160noreply@blogger.com
